Per Mertesacker limped off the pitch in the semi-final clash against Reading last week and is expected to be assessed by the medical staff today, but the centreback has put his personal woes behind him to celebrate the Gunners’ phenomenal feat of reaching Wembley for the fourth time in two seasons.

The 30-year-old was subjected to widespread criticism following his spineless interview after his side allowed Monaco to progress to the next stage of Champions League, but he now seems to have learnt the art of speaking to the press as he stated that it was a great achievement to have made a comeback from their howler in the grandest European football tournament to get closer to the Football Association Cup trophy.

Mikel Arteta was believed to face the same curse that the Arsenal captains – William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas Robin van Persie and Thomas Vermaelen endured as the Gunners were expected to part ways with their captain at the end of the season. The Spaniard has now become the first to arrest the pattern as he stated that he would sign an extension to his contract.

Currently on the sidelines trying to regain fitness following an ankle injury, the former Everton midfielder hopes to hit the ground again, thereby prolonging his stay with the London outfit. However, he admitted that he might ply his trade anywhere but Emirates Stadium in the event of failing in his attempts to get back to his finest.

Having won fifteen of their last seventeen games, Arsenal are on the right track to successfully defend their FA Cup title and Arsene Wenger sounded ambitious as he addressed the press ahead of his tenth FA Cup semi-final as the Gunners manager.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, Arsene Wenger announced that he would have most of his first team players at his disposal for the Wembley visit as he told the press that only Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta are out with injury to groin and match fitness issues respectively. He also stated that Jack Wilshere could be available for selection, having played eighty eight minutes for the youth side.

Alexis Sanchez has been nominated for PFA player of the year after a great first season with Arsenal. Sanchez has been a revelation since joining Arsenal inspiring the team to more hard working performances.  

Alexis has brought a more dynamic style to this Arsenal team showing a directness when having the ball at his feet but has also contributed 14 league goals to the team as well as grabbing 8 assists.

The other nominations include Hazard, Costa, De Gea, Kane and Coutinho.
