Having won fifteen of their last seventeen games, Arsenal are on the right track to successfully defend their FA Cup title and Arsene Wenger sounded ambitious as he addressed the press ahead of his tenth FA Cup semi-final as the Gunners manager.
Speaking to Arsenal Player, Arsene Wenger announced that he would have most of his first team players at his disposal for the Wembley visit as he told the press that only Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta are out with injury to groin and match fitness issues respectively. He also stated that Jack Wilshere could be available for selection, having played eighty eight minutes for the youth side.
"We have a big squad available for selection. We just have Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out but everybody else should be all right. Jack Wilshere has improved physically and should be available while Oxlade-Chamberlain is at least two weeks away."
The French manager is known to give fringe players a go in the English cup competitions, but stated that the balance of the team might be interrupted in the event of making changes to his acclaimed starting eleven. Though the effect of benching in-form players seems fragile and not easy, he stated that he could make a change or two to his line-ups.
"It is always sensitive decisions. I can change one or two or three players to keep everybody involved, but as well it's important not to interrupt the balance of the team. That is always very fragile and sensitive and not easy.”
Wojciech Szczesny has lost his status as first choice goal-keeper to David Ospina following his howlers against Southampton and hasn’t really found his way back into the starting eleven, but Arsene Wenger revealed that the Polish international would feature between the sticks at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
“It will be Wojciech Szczesny, who plays on Saturday, but he has played in the last round. This season he has played at Manchester United and he had a very good performance. I believe it’s important that the two goalkeepers get competition and he will get competition in the FA Cup now, as long as David Ospina plays in the Premier League.”
In the other semi-final fixture, Liverpool lock horns with Aston Villa and the Gunners may be expected to play the team they famously beat 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium in the final game of the prestigious cup competition.
