Is Gervinho on his way?
The transfer of Gervinho looks close to being finalized with a £10 million deal being reported by Metro. Roma originally had a £6 million bid rejected but are likely to match Arsenal’s asking price.
With Arsenal’s ongoing pursuit of Bernard, Arsene Wenger is keen to free up some funds and finally get rid of the Ivorian. Gervinho’s coach at Lille, Rudi Garcia, is desperate to link up again with the winger who will add some extra pace to Roma’s front line.
Gervinho will be the 7th major player to leave Arsenal as part of a summer clear out, a decision which is likely to go down well with Arsenal fans.
Gervinho has not quite lived up to the hype after Eden Hazard being described as the best player he had ever played with. He showed flashes of quality but it was far too inconsistent and this deal seems very much in the interest of Arsenal.
Will Santi be at Arsenal next year?
Last week, Spanish newspaper Marca broke the news that Atletico Madrid had agreed personal terms with Santi Cazorla but were yet to agree a fee with Arsenal. Having sold talisman Radamel Falcao for £53 million, Atleti have a large amount of money to play with and the Spaniard seems to fit the bill.
However Cazorla was very quick to play down these reports and state that he was happy in London.
“Much has been made the subject of Atletico Madrid, but I am very good in London,”
I have a contract with Arsenal and I start training on Monday,”
'We’ll see when I come back to La Liga - it is very difficult right now.”
These quotes seemingly dismiss the idea of a move this year but a return to Spain looks likely in the future if we are to believe his quotes.
If Arsenal are to have a successful season, keeping perhaps our best player is an absolute must, but unless an astronomical offer comes in, I believe we will see Santi at the Emirates next season.
Arsenal bid accepted for Bernard?
French newspaper L’Equipe and Brazilian magazine O Jogo reported the news last week that Brazilian playmaker Bernard was due to fly to London this week after Atletico Mineiro and Arsenal agreed a £20 million fee.
However as the week has passed and no new players have been signed, the rumour looks to be pure speculation.
Atletico’s sporting director Eduardo Maluf commented on the matter saying:
“Bernard was present today, and Bernard is there training,”
“If we have a great offer, he will be sold and you will know. But he plays for Atlético-MG and this speculation has been going for months.”
This move looks to be a non starter for me. Various sources on Twitter have claimed that Porto’s links with Atletico Mineiro make them favourites to sign the Brazilian. The player himself has refused to comment on any speculation, but if a move is to go through, Porto looks the most likely destination.
