The Luis Suarez saga is getting a bit boring now- will he or wont he push for his move from Liverpool and will Arsenal pay the asking price to get their man. How much truth is there in the articles we have been reading?
We have been fed a great deal of information from two of the clubs more trusted sources, BBC’s David Ornstein and The Mirror’s John Cross, yet none has come to fruition.
On the 2nd August, 4 days ago now, Ornstein published an article about Suarez’ supposed consideration to hand in transfer request and the threat of legal action to push things along. However, there has been no such movement on this front and we are no closer to a resolution in this saga.
John Cross has been feeding the same sort of information. On the 24th July, soon after Arsenals’ record £40,000,001 for Suarez, he stated
“They've had encouragement. Suarez is ready to come to Arsenal. Arsenal are hopeful, confident and expectant. They believe the right big name can help them win the title.”
This statement I genuinely believe is true, Suarez is keen to come to the Emirates and the stumbling block is clearly the very high price Liverpool have set, but the problem that Arsenal fans have is the lack of development. One would think that in a 2-week period, there would be some change in the scenario but we are in the same position as we were before we even bid for Suarez- he isn’t coming.
The same is true as of the 25th July, when after Tottenham moved for Soldado, Cross again claimed that Suarez wanted his future solved in the next 48 hours.
Again, I believe that Cross genuinely had some information regarding Suarez’ desire to push his agenda and move to Arsenal but to put a time period of ’48 hours’ and then sitting here on the 6th August with nothing happening is a frustrating position for Arsenal fans.
Which forces the question- Are Arsenal pushing out stories and giving journalists encouragement just to appease the expectant fanbase?
I don’t believe that David Ornstein or John Cross are giving false information, in fact the opposite- perhaps Arsenal are giving them false information which they are relaying and nothing ever seems to come together.
They are 2 very respected and trusted sources and Cross especially is a massive Arsenal fan so he is hoping these deals go through just as much as we are.
I just hope for the sake of Arsenal and their fans that they are not making mugs of us and that they are genuinely trying to spend our £70million warchest.
Cross himself claims that he has spoken to Wenger in person and that he seemed encouraged by what he had to say- but we keep hearing this and yet less than 2 weeks before the start of the Premier League season- we have a young Frenchman on a free transfer as our only senior signing.
