Luis Suarez will stay at Liverpool this summer.
The Uruguayan had supposedly been agonisingly close to a move from Liverpool to the Gunners, with bids ranging from £40,000,000 to…. £40,000,001 failing as Brendan Rodgers hung on to his man.
Opportunity for a big signing!....
Suarez has had a turbulent time at Liverpool, serving bans for racial abuse and biting. This summer he looked set to leave Anfield after he publically announced his intent at a transfer, and Arsenal were among the only sides to pounce.
Suarez had flirted with Real Madrid in an attempt to catch their eye, but funds are seemingly short with world record bids for Gareth Bale being readied.
The Premier League’s 2nd top goalscorer last season apparently spoke personally with Martin Charquero of GolTV Latin American and told him he would be staying.
“Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans has influenced his decision.” Charquero tweeted.
"Suarez see it as likely that he'll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool."
..Aaaand it’s gone.
The Gunners sole hope of a marquee signing looks to have gone amiss with David Moyes categorically ruling out any departure of Wayne Rooney, and Gonzalo Higuain already settled in Napoli blue.
As the departure list rises endlessly and Yaya Sanogo remains the sole import of the summer, pressure on Wenger to make numerous signings late on in the window rises – or face a fans backlash.
Suarez’s U-turn highlights yet another missed opportunity, as another £10million (£8million of that raised from Gervinho’s sale) would have brought the prolific Uruguay international to the Emirates.
Have faith.
