Talking after Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Fenerbahce, Arsene Wenger sent out a strong message to the fans about his aims between now and the end of the transfer window, September 2nd.
The Gunners manager has also quashed all talk of Luis Suarez signing for the club and insists that deal is now deal in the water.
Suarez deal dead
“Yes,” was Wenger’s response when asked if the deal was dead for the Uruguayan international.
“Absolutely no chance of that.”
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is happy that the matter has been resolved now, following Suarez’s apology and he should continue with the Merseyside outfit.
Transfer window starts now
This should not deter Arsenal fans because Wenger was in fighting mood after the game last night and insists he is now ready to start adding to his squad.
Le Professor said:
“It is like a poker game. People hold their cards as long as possible and see what is happening out there. In the end, they go for decisions.
“First everybody goes on holiday and nobody wants to do anything. Then in many clubs there are manager changes. They need to know the squad before they make a decision.
“You have to understand there is still a long way to go.
“The transfer market starts for me now and a lot of activity will happen between now and September 2.
“From August 21 until September 2 you have 12 days, so a lot will happen. It starts now.”
Old boy returning?
The Times report that we are very much interested in bring former midfielder Mathieu Flamini back to the club.
The midfielder, whose AC Milan contract expired during the summer, has been training with Arsenal over the past fortnight to retain fitness and could end up staying at the North London club.
He has been asking for £75,000 a week when offered to other Premier League teams, wages which wouldn’t be a huge deal for Arsenal.
Any move for Flamini would come if Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye doesn’t join the club and that seems increasingly likely, with the 27-year-old keen on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
