It seems unbelievable that a player who is arguably the best number 10 in the world, who is still only 24 years old, would want to sign for a club fighting for top four Champions League qualification every year.

However, in a World Cup year, and with the arrival of Isco and Gareth Bale in Madrid, it seems that Özil has dropped down the pecking order and will struggle to find first team football under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Mirror believes Wenger is happy to sign Özil on loan if the permanent deal can’t be agreed, as the German has expressed a desire to remain at the Bernabeu recently.

A loan move would offer little encouragement to Arsenal fans that Wenger is changing his ways and is spending big, and would almost certainly not come with a choice to purchase at the end of the loan, meaning there’s nothing we’d be able to do to keep him if he had an impressive season but bid around £50m.

Arsene Wenger hinted at a surprise on deadline day, as well as saying about transfers:

I am confident, yes. I am ready to pay what we can afford. Even if it is a bit over the market as long as it is not crazy. I am not against spending”.

Arsene Wenger is known to be old-fashioned when it comes to spending on players, and this quote perhaps provides Arsenal fans with a little assurance that maybe Wenger will bring in a big name.

The signing could ignite a new era of success at the Emirates. With a world-class player like Mesut Özil, other world-class players will be more likely to want to join the club.
