Marca have completed a dramatic u-turn and claimed that Mesut Ozil will stay at Madrid.
Having reported that a €50million deal to bring the German to Arsenal was imminent, the Spanish newspaper who have renowned ties with Real then changed its mind claiming that Ozil would remain a Galactico after all.
It was thought that Gareth Bale’s world record transfer which was made official last night would trigger a Madrid clearout, however since AC Milan completed the transfer of Kaka from the Bernabeu this morning, the need for Ozil to be kicked out was lessened.
Isco remains the first choice creative midfielder, having scored 3 in his first 3 games, however Ozil will stay in Spain to fight for his first team place now that the Brazilian has completed his switch to Serie A.
The developments highlight the extent that Marca actually know. And that is nothing.
They continuously churn out rubbish, which was seen throughout the summer with the Bale saga. The deal was so long and drawn out, made worse only by the Spanish newspaper publishing a huge picture of him on their back pages claiming that he had “finally signed” every other day.
God knows what their reaction must have been when they finally reported that Bale was a Madrid player.
“What?! We got it right?!”
The paper is the subject of ridicule throughout the footballing world, having made so many false claims over the years. Sergio Aguero was a “Madrid player” a week before he was announced at Manchester City, and Wayne Rooney has been looking to come to Spain for about 5 years now.
The u-turn over Ozil, which took them all of 24 hours to make up, was more than likely a knee-jerk reaction when they thought the German was on the way out. Now it seems he is happy (as he has always claimed) and will stay at Madrid (…as he has always claimed).
