Numerous players have taken to Facebook and Twitter to welcome Arsenal’s latest arrival – Mesut Ozil in a €50million deal from Real Madrid.
Lukas Podolski spend the majority of the evening on Twitter retweeting the incoming praise of newbie Ozil, including famous Arsenal fans such as German boxer Felix Sturm and double Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah.
The German retweeted Farah’s excited statement earlier on:
“@Mo_Farah: Mesut Ozil having a medical with @Arsenal!!! Kiss kiss bang bang!!! Come on Arsenal.......!!!!!”
Along with Podolski, Fulham defender Sascha Riether welcomed his countryman to the capital with the tweet “welcome to London @MesutOzil1088”.
Another countryman, Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng, used Facebook to wish Ozil good luck in England; posting a picture of himself and the smiling midfielder to accompany the good luck message in German.
Sky Sports and BBC both confirmed that the deal has gone off without a hitch, despite late rumours that Zinedine Zidane has flown in to attempt to scupper the massive transfer.
