Two goals from Aaron Ramsey and another from Oliver Giroud put Arsenal top of the Barclays Premier League with a third consecutive win away at Sunderland.

It took £42million signing Mesut Ozil just 11 minutes to register his first assist of his career in England as the debutant set up Giroud after it was feared that the German might miss the clash through injury.

Jozy Altidore’s disallowed goal took the shine away from Arsenal’s professional performance, as Paolo di Canio stole the show with his flamboyant display of disagreement. However Ramsey, Ozil and Giroud all played starring roles as Arsene Wenger’s side move to the top of the table ahead of Spurs on goal difference.

The Pundits

The BBC’s Garth Crooks commented on the performance of Ozil and Arsenal in general after full time:

"Ozil was outstanding, as was Ramsey, but Ozil looked like he has been at Arsenal for years. His ball across for Giroud was superb and another for Walcott was also superb, and Walcott should have scored. We are going to hear an awful lot from this kid."

The Players

Even goalscorer Aaron Ramsey, who has improved superbly since the beginning of the season and has found an uncharacteristic eye for goal in recent weeks, praised the Summer signing to continue the bombardment of plaudits:

"You've seen what he is all about slipping those balls in, he has one of highest assist-rates in Europe and he is going to create a lot of opportunities for us.

"I'm delighted to be on the scoresheet again. In the last few seasons I've been getting into right positions but maybe I've been lacking a bit of composure but I'm enjoying it now."

Some of the players tweeted after the game:

@cakpom9 “good 3-1 win against Sunderland away, buzzing to have made my premier league debut, a day to remember , thanks for all the support #AFC”

@Podolski10 “3:1! Happy that the lads gave my bro Mesut a perfect premier league start and brought AFC to the TOP!!;) #afc #poldi #aha”

The Boss

After the game, Wenger was conservative while commenting on the controversial Altidore goal:

"We were a bit lucky at 2-1 maybe, but we found the mental resources to win.

"It could have been a foul for us as well because Altidore took Sagna as well but the referee blew before the goal, I was sure of that because I saw him."

The Fans

It will take a lot to upset Arsenal fans these days, with the club flying high and boasting some of the biggest name sin the Premier League. The grateful fans took to Twitter to express their joy at yet another win, with a few famous names thrown in:

@piersmorgan “Hey chaps @Persie_Official @rioferdy5 @WayneRooney - don't strain your necks craning up at us”
