Wednesday night sees Arsenal kick-off the first of their domestic cup campaigns away to West Bromwich Albion.

Arsenal are on a rich vein of form, and  have one all of their matches since that opening day defeat to Aston Villa, whilst also taking their away form to 10 straight wins: a club record.

The Capital One Cup is the competition Arsenal has come closest to winning in recent years, and after losing in a dismal performance to Bradford last year, the Gunners will be hoping to strike it lucky this year.

Arsenal News

The Capital One Cup has been notorious for Wenger playing his youth players, however, with a tricky away game first up, there wouldn’t be a surprise if the boss only shuffles the pack slightly.

Arsenal still have a wealth of players on the injury table including Luka Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky, however, Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen are back from injury.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano looks set to make his debut following his deadline day signing for the Gunners, while Wenger may look to rest Giroud and Ozil for the early stages of this competition, as Nicklas Bendtner looks set to make his first start for Arsenal in two years.

Possible Line-up

As this is a Capital One Cup game, only Wenger knows how the team will shape up, but this is what I would expect it to look like.

Viviano; Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Monreal; Eisfeld, Flamini, Arteta; Gnabry, Bendtner, Miyachi.

The Opposition

After impressing everyone last season under Steve Clarke, West Brom have had a stagnated start to the League this campaign, however, they secured their first win of the season at the Weekend over Sunderland.

One of the major forces behind West Brom’s excellent season last year was the form of on-loan striker, Romelu Lukaku. However, since the Belgian moved on West Brom had seemed to lack some of their attacking prowess, though weekend debutant Stephane Sessegon showed that they still have that quality up front, despite injuries to Shane Long and Matej Vydra.

While West Brom may view this competition as the club’s best chance of silverware, the fact that Arsenal have won the last four meetings between these sides doesn’t seem to offer them too much hope in progressing.
