Last year’s Wembley Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund travel to the Emirates in an attempt to cancel-out the 3 point deficit struck on them after their opening game defeat to Napoli.
Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Champions League puts them top of the table with 6 points after resounding victories over Italy’s Napoli and France’s Marseille, whereas Dortmund’s 3-0 win against the French side are the sole points gained so far in the competition.
Arsenal continue to sit pretty at the precipice of the Premier League after yet another storming display this time against Norwich. The Canaries were no match for Arsene Wenger’s side as Mesut Ozil grabbed his first Premiership goal with a brace at the Emirates.
Jack Wilshere added to the scoring as he finished off a beyond-stunning team goal which saw breath-taking interchange with Oliver Giroud dispatched in style by the young Englishman.
Dortumund are 1 point off top spot in Germany as last season’s defeaters Bayern Munich continue their successful one-upmanship of Jurgen Klopp’s side. With 7 wins out of 9 in the Bundesliga, Dortmund also boast the highest number of goals in the league with 22.
The Gunners’ 18 goals from 8 games and Der BVB’s 22 goals from 9 should make for a very exciting game indeed.
What we said
Wenger has conceded that although the game is not a be-all-and-end-all, it is a vital fixture in the Gunners’ so far successful season:
"It's not a decider but an important one. It's an 80% game for the qualifying," added Wenger.
"If we win the game, we know that if we win the other home game we are there."
"We want to come out of the game and feel that we have played at our best. If we do we will be difficult to handle for everybody."
Arteta added:
"We have two very difficult games coming up against Dortmund, after that we will know exactly where we are in the group. They are a very good side and they are doing well in their own league.
Szczesny:
“Certainly Lewandowski is one of the best you can find in Europe so he will be dangerous, but we played against them before [in 2011] and we've handled him quite well so I hope we can do that again.
What they said
Klopp has revealed his own thoughts on the clash:
"We should be one step further on Tuesday,” he told reporters. “We can play better, and we will. I have a good feeling."
And along with Klopp, Sporting Director Michael Zorc has expressed his admiration for the North London side, and recent acquisition Mesut Ozil:
"The match is completely open. Arsenal are in top shape and are leading the table in the Premier League,” he said.
“In the Champions League you don't get 10 chances to score. If you have one, you should capitalise on that."
"It looks like he [Ozil] is precisely the player they were lacking before,” he added. “They have assembled a top team again."
