Borussia Dortmund’s in-form frontman Robert Lewandowski will not move to England this year despite rumours that the Balon D’Or nominee would be available for as little as £7million.

The Polish striker – who has 88 goals in 156 games for Dortmund since he joined them from Lech Poznan in 2010 – had claimed that he still wished to play in the Premier League despite consistent rumours that he had signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern Munich.

Ch£ls£a’s Move…

Chelsea had moved to the front of the queue in the race to sign Lewandowski after Manchester United pulled out after seeing a £18million bid rejected during the Sir Alex Ferguson reign, with Manchester City and Arsenal also in the running.

Yet Jose Mourinho was said to be willing to pay over the £7million asking price with Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o failing to hit the jackpot up top this season.

And Lewandowki even claimed that he turned down Mourinho after he hit 4 past Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final:

“I can confirm that I spoke to him [Mourinho]. We spoke a few times before. I have his number in my phone. It is a huge compliment for me that a manager with such a big name is texting me this way.”

And he also claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson was in contact after his spellbinding display last season:

“The retirement of Sir Alex didn't affect my decision not to come to England. He spoke to me one year ago, but it was not a good time.”

“The Premier League is huge of course, as is La Liga. But the Bundesliga has all the conditions, stadiums, fans and atmosphere to dominate for the next five years.”

Form-guy

Lewandowski prepared for this week’s clash with Arsenal in the Champions League with an 18-minute hat-trick as Dortmund crushed Stuttgart 6-1 in the Bundesliga, having scored the winner at the Emirates late on in the group game in October.

He was left unmarked at the back post to fire a fine first-time left-footed volley past Wojciech Szczesny in the 82nd minute last time out, giving the German side all 3 points to put them 2nd in the Group F table.

Lewandowski was given a taste of life in England at the Emirates and Arsene Wenger is said to be a huge admirer.

Despite his admiration of the striker, Wenger was unable to stay composed as he claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s main man should have been sent off during the 2-1 defeat:

“It looked like Lewandowksi could have been sent off but I haven't seen it well and the referee was in a much better situation.”

German reports

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and it was initially believed that he would follow in the footsteps of former Dortmund man Mario Gotze in transferring to German giants Bayern Munich, who beat Der BVB to the League and Champions League double last year.

And German football magazine BILD has now suggested that any move to the Premier League is all rumour, with the initial idea that Lewandowski wants a move to Bayern being taken as the correct one.

The tag “Lewandowski” was trending on Twitter for a short while as the headline “Robert Lewandowski has no interest in joining an English Premier League club. (Source: BILD)” circulated, linking to the German website entailing his preference for Bayern.

Although there is supposedly no agreement in place, Lewandowski looks set for the Allianz Arena.
