The transfer window is just over a month away and already we have rumours from so called ‘inside-men’, the latest came yesterday night on Spanish football show Punto Pelota as Francois Gallardo announced that Arsenal will try to raid Real Madrid again in January.
Mesut Ozil moved to north London during the last few days of the summer transfer window and ex-team mates Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane may join him if Arsene Wenger has his way.
Gallardo’s claims
This is according to Gallardo, who exclaimed: “An English team will try and strengthen in the winter by turning to Madrid to try to take two players of the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Arsenal want to reinforce their squad in the winter and will go for Benzema and Varane. Karim is the ‘darling’ of Wenger, who is obsessed with him, and Raphael is also admired, but the operation is not viable.
“Karim, obviously, will not leave in January. It is unfeasible. The other player that Arsene has in mind is Raphael Varane. Wenger’s obsessions will come to the fore in January, but neither transfer is workable.”
Nonsense?
A lot of these rumours are completely fiction and whilst some prove to be correct, I doubt this guy can truly take credit if Arsenal make a move for the Madrid duo.
We have long been linked with Benzema, throughout the summer we was, and although Varane hasn’t been such a frequent tie. It is common knowledge that Arsenal need another centre back.
Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are Wenger’s first choice pairing currently and we have club captain Thomas Vermaelen waiting in the wings.
Should two of those get injured however it leaves the Gunners boss with a problem, a fourth centre back should be high on his list of priorities.
Hit and miss…
Anyway back to Gallardo and I’ll leave you with some of his previous prediction. The time he revealed Drogba could move to Barcelona. A better statement from him back in June was when he revealed Bale to Los Blancos was a done deal.
However my favourite story was that Chelsea’s John Terry would be moving to Valencia, that didn’t materialise and although I would love Benzema and Varane to move to the Emirates, we shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet.
