"Yes, he can be one of the best," the Arsenal boss told Arsenal Player during a recent interview.
"He is a very young man. I personally believe his composure is better, his reading of the game is better, his level of concentration is much stronger and that comes out with his numbers. He is still a very young goalkeeper because he's at an age where other goalkeepers start to play.
Wojciech Szczesny has certainly stamped his authority on the number 1 spot this season for the Gunners. Arguably in the form of his life the 23 year old Poland international has produced a number of excellent performances this year and has been a major influence on the clubs amazing start to the season.
Experience
With 125 appearances for Arsenal in his career so far, this young keeper is in no way lacking in experience. Having played in a cup final, important champions league matches and clean sheet to his name against Borussia Dortmund in their own stadium; he certainly is no mug when it comes to big games!!
Consistency is key
What I feel has set him apart this season has been his consistency. Szczesny has put in many great performances in his career at Arsenal but in previous years he could go from having a first class performance to having a nightmare game in the blink of an eye.
I think I speak for all Arsenal fans when I say that I absolutely hated the man on the 27th of February 2011, if that date doesn’t ring a bell with you then you are lucky to have forgotten it, for I certainly haven’t. What happened on that date was something I will never forget, the Carling cup final blunder. Szczesny and Koscielny having a mix up that cost us a game that it looked almost certain we would of won if it had continued into extra time, it was devastating and Szczesny certainly had his part to play.
But things have changed, he used to go from having an unbelievable game to having a stinker in the blink of an eye and that just hasn’t happened so far this season.
The future
Improving in every game and making world class saves while showing extreme maturity in his decision making I see no reason why the Pole cannot become one of the world’s best. He has all the necessary traits to do so as long as he keeps his head down and works hard which Arsène Wenger knows himself.
“That will depend on how much he will continue to focus, to have the desire to be better, to have the desire to put the hard work in.”
