Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was in the Sky Sports studios yesterday evening ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Napoli and had some fascinating views on the current gunners team.
His eloquent best, he talked about Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud but most interesting backed up the common belief filling England and maybe crossing Europe that the north London club can beat anyone.
Henry is currently training with the Gunners to keep up his fitness as the MLS has now ended and he has obviously seen a change at the club.
Belief is key
He believes belief has been the difference this campaign, adding: “Just the belief that they have again, the way that they can beat any team at any moment.
“I think the game against Bayern Munich did a lot for them, knowing that they can beat the champions away from home – and well – did a lot for the young team.
“For me, since that game, everything has changed.
Giroud a changed man
The Highbury legend also believes Olivier Giroud now has the hunger in his eyes to become a top, top player as he discussed his fellow Frenchman.
Henry said: “There is something I want to add about Giroud. As a striker you need to pass the line of being a killer and he has that in his eyes now when I see him.
“He arrived and he wanted to see how was England and all of that but now I can see that he doesn’t want to miss a game.
“He wants to be the guy that makes his team win. He wants to be the guy that sets up a goal, he wants to be the guy.
“That is what you need to be the guy, to have that attitude and not in a bad way.
“All the time people get confused with being confident and being arrogant. You need the right amount of confidence.”
On our record signing, Thierry can see similarities with the German and Robert Pires.
Mesut Ozil
He said: “I would have loved to have played with him, he reminds me of Robert Pires.
“He will share the ball. He can find a guy who is quick, a target striker. He can play any type of ball.
“He has the thing you want from a midfielder. He has time. It seems like he is playing on his own in garden.
“He has brought that composure on the ball that you need. I think he brought that to Arsenal football club. Him coming with his name. You have got to back it up. He did back it up.”
Arsenal have a potentially hard round of 16 draw but Henry had some words of wisdom for the Gunners faithful to chew over.
“Everybody laughed”
“I remember the year we went to the final. Everybody laughed when we beat Real Madrid,” said our all-time top goalscorer.
“You know, I remember them leaving the draw and saying we’re happy with Arsenal.
“Then we beat them. Then we went to play Juve, everybody was like, that’s an easy one for Juve.
“Then we went through. But that’s not the road you want to take right? You don’t want to play against those teams, but that’s the way it is.”
