Reports in the Italian press suggest Arsenal and Manchester United will be looking to fight it out over Juventus and Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio in the January transfer window.
Il Sussidiario believe that both Premier League clubs will try to tempt the 27-year-old away from Turin and David Moyes’ team have been linked with him before.
Arsenal’s interest, if these reports are to be believed, is sudden as this is the first time our name has crept up in conversations surrounding Marchisio.
He is being linked with a move away from the Old Lady because other midfield rivals seem to be committing their future to the club, which leaves a starting position for the Italian in the balance.
Arturo Vidal recently committed to a new long-term contract and Paul Pogba is likely to be joining him soon.
Andrea Pirlo is allegedly in talks to renew his contract, which runs out at the end of the season, although he also has been linked with a move away and Marchisio’s future could depend on the Italian veterans.
Marchisio hasn’t enjoyed the greatest of campaigns, in the 19 appearances he has made so far he is yet to register a goal or assist for his club, he does have one goals and one assist for his country however.
Should he become available in January it would be interesting to see if Wenger goes in for the Italian, do you think Marchisio is needed at the Emirates?
