Arsène Wenger has given fans an update on the latest injuries ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

The main news over the past week has been the injury to Theo Walcott but the Arsenal manager also gave updates on Aaron Ramsey, Kieron Gibbs and discussed several other players returning to fitness.

One of those was Nicklas Bendtner, who was reported yesterday to be returning to ‘light training’ next week according to the Times but that has been disproven but Wenger’s latest comments.

The Frenchman told Arsenal’s official website that Bendtner will be back in training “three weeks from now.”

The news was positive on various other players though.

Wenger said: “Walcott has surgery and then it’s rehab. You know that it is six months and you hope it all goes well. The only thing I can say is it’s very sad news for us and above all for him.

“Ramsey and Gibbs are very close. There is a small possibility that both of them could be available for Monday.

“Vermaelen had a little knee problem so he had to come off against Tottenham. He could be short for Monday but there’s still a chance. But everybody else should be alright.”

Wenger also commented that Mesut Özil and Olivier Giroud could be back and discussed the unusualness about Alex Olade-Chamberlain possible return.

He added: “They (Giroud and Özil) had a good training session yesterday and today they had no problem. They could be back.

“It is unbelievable because he played the first game of the season, against Aston Villa, and now he is back and available and it is against Aston Villa again.

“That makes it five months where he has been completely out, so that means he is fresh and that should give us a boost.”

Despite Theo’s misfortune it seems finally for the first time in a long, long time we have positive news on the injury front.
