Bacary Sagna is holding up the news of Arsène Wenger and Per Mertesacker extending their stays with Arsenal, after the pair agreed contract extensions.

This is according to various reports in today’s media, Daily Star state that Wenger has agreed to sign a new deal although they don’t disclose the length.

Sagna holding the master plan up

They also believe that Sagna is taking some time to commit himself to the club and that Arsenal aims to reveal to the media that the three important figures have all signed together.

Daily Telegraph back up this story about Sagna not renewing his contract yet and they insist it could go on towards the end of the season.

Money the issue but not as clear as it seems

Daily Telegraph say the 30-year-old would like to remain at Arsenal and finish his career in north London but he is disappointed with the offer on the board.

Sagna and Arsenal have been negotiating on and off for more than a year and Arsenal aren’t looking to significantly increase his £70,000-a-week deal, whilst they are only offering an addition two years.

The French full back has never asked for money according to the Telegraph’s report but felt his loyalty and performances would see him earn an increase in wages.

Loyalty needs to be rewarded…

With his contract running out in the summer, Sagna is free to speak with other clubs now and various have shown interest.

Paris-Saint Germain, Monaco and Galatasaray have all registered but it appears the latter club could be his most likely destination should he leave the Emirates.

It was only a few days ago that Turkish newspaper Fanatik reported that Sagna was close to a principle agreement, which would see him earn £4.1 million per season.

He currently earns £3.6 with Arsenal and Galatasaray would offer him a four-year deal to completely swamp the Gunners current offer.

Could wait a long time

Although news that Mertesacker and Wenger have renewed their deals is excellent, I believe Arsenal could be waiting a while longer if they want to break the news when Sagna signs up as well.

The Gunners are in a title fight this season and that could help Sagna renew but it seems the defender wants Arsenal to reward him. Because of Arsenal’s policy when it comes to 30-year-old I feel we could see the French defender leaving this summer.
