We are halfway through the January transfer window but no additions have been made to Arsène Wenger squad just yet.
However, plenty of rumours have come to the surface again today with us supposedly making a bid for a young defender.
Jamaal Lascelles…
The young defender in question is Jamaal Lascelles of Nottingham Forest. According to the Daily Mail we have put in an initial £3 million offer for the 20-year-old.
He is extremely highly rated by Forest and many have announced him as a huge talent, Newcastle are rivaling ourselves for the youngster, who was watched last weekend by chief scout Steve Rowley.
Our first offer includes an increase in the transfer fee based on appearances and the Mail believe that Forest would consider a deal if Lascelles was loaned straight back to them.
He may be highly rated but is this type of player Wenger should be going for?
Spain striker (not Diego Costa)
A transfer that might be more appealing to fans is one being reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo who state that we have been watching Benfica star Rodrigo.
They claim that Benfica are suffering from financial problems and need to sell some players to balance the books, however the former Real Madrid forward would cost around £30 million.
We had scouts in Portugal to watch Jackson Martinez but maybe they casted an eye over Rodrigo to see his talents.
Celtic’s Dutch star
Finally Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk has talked about reports linking Arsenal and Manchester City with him.
The 22-year-old only moved to Scotland last summer but has impressed since moving north of the border.
He told Voetbal International that the rumours must mean he is doing something right.
“I haven’t spoken with anyone yet,” said van Dijk.
“But it’s always a good sign, but I am enjoying it here at Celtic. The first six months were fantastic.
“What I know is that I am in a good place here at Celtic and that feels excellent.”
We’ll wait to see how these transfer rumours materalise over the next two weeks.
