Kim Källström has officially signed his loan contract with Arsenal and we believe that concludes the transfer dealings at the Emirates today.

The Swede was at the Arsenal training ground this afternoon and completed his medical early this evening.

An experienced international, he now agreed personal terms with the Gunners and joins on a loan-deal until the end of the season.

Lyon success

The 31-year-old is best known for his time at Lyon in France where he played an integral part in their successful era during the mid 2000’s.

He won two Ligue 1 titles with Lyon, in addition to triumphs in the Coupe de France and was a mainstay in their midfield between 2006 and 2012.

Since moving to Russia, Källström hasn’t reproduced the same level of football he did in France. This season he has played ten times in the Russian Premier League and scored just once.

He hasn’t played a competitive match since December 8th and even that was only six minutes so his match fitness will certainly be up for question.

Highly rated

He was linked with the club back in 2009 though and Wenger “admires his technical and dead-ball qualities”.

Källström will now finally get the chance to pull on the famous red jersey and former Gunner Alan Smith has been speaking to Sky Sports News about why Arsène Wenger has signed the Swedish international.

He also went on to praise the Spartak Moscow midfielder, adding: “It was one they had to react quickly to with Ramsey, Flamini (being unavailable) and Jack Wilshere picking up a knock.

“All of a sudden they are weak in a department where they were strongest previously because you look at the choice of players they’ve got in midfielder, or they had in midfield and it was anywhere but there.

“He is an experienced Swedish international and a talented boy. He could come in and do a job, how much game time he’ll get we’ll wait and see.”

It isn’t the luxury signing we all craved but it is an experienced head in a relatively young dressing room and also a face that should fit perfectly into the Arsenal philosophy.

Hopefully Källström is a success during his short-term stay at the Emirates.
