Chuba Akpom has been recalled from his loan at Coventry City and has been placed in Arsenal’s match day squad against Swansea.
It is unclear at the moment to know if he will be starting but rumour has it he will be Arsenal’s back-up striker until the end of the season and this comes after Bendtner’s actions in Copenhagen which means he has probably played his last game for the club.
Akpom has proven his goal scoring capabilities at U21 level by consistently finding the back of the net. 18 years old and he could be chucked right into the action. Akpom has all the main skills needed to be leading centre forward. Akpom possesses attributes such as pace, strength and determination.
Akpom impressed me in the league cup match against West Brom when he showed a willingness to run and showed no fear which maybe what Arsenal need at this moment in time. Akpom also showed that he can cope under pressure by taking one of the penalties.
Should he start?
The question which is being asked is should he start ahead of Giroud. The answer to this I don’t know I’ve been saying for a while he should be given a chance and let’s face it he can’t do any worse at the moment. Giroud looks tired and doesn’t seem to pressing upfront so why not give Akpom a chance. Furthermore, he has been developing nicely at Coventry.
This was the question which was asked on twitter which @GeoffArsenal replied “I’d start him”
Overall, I’d give him a chance tomorrow and Wenger might just unearth another gem.
