Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere took the icy pressure off Arsène Wenger today, revealing his drastic measures to get fit in time for the final few games of the season.
PICTURE PERFECT
Taking to his Twitter page, the 22 year-old Englishman published a topless photo of himself preparing before a 12-minute session of ‘Chryotherapy’.
Using freezing temperatures of, in Wilshere’s case, around - 100°, the method is aimed at speeding recovery from soft tissue injuries, as well as decreasing pain and inflammation of muscles.
Wilshere was ruled out for 6 weeks with a foot injury after an incident with Daniel Agger on England duty against Denmark.
CRITICISM
The bold medical actions have come as a result of criticism by renowned fitness coach Raymond Verheijen over Arsenal’s training methods. The Dutchman claims that these have contributed to frequent injuries over the past few years, leading Arsène Wenger to claim that the club will launch an internal inquiry into the injuries.
The Frenchman said:
“We are analysing very deeply why it happened and to see if there is a link between all these injuries."
BLURRED LINES
It is clear that there needs to be more communication between the club and fans in regards to player rehabilitation. It is unlikely that supporters will be aware of these methods or even that Wilshere was in need of this type of therapy.
With long-term absentees such as Abou Diaby not being reported about for weeks on end, it will only weaken the bond with the fans, something that has been wavering due to on the field antics.
