Arsenal’s summer signing Mathieu Flamini shirked responsibility last night for the dramatic draw with Swansea at the Emirates stadium.
Dodgy Defense
The French midfielder, ever present in the Arsenal midfield this season, was involved in the late goal mess involving Swansea midfielder Leon Britton, Per Mertesacker and Wojciech Szczesny.
Flamini reflected how:
“I was coming back and I think the keeper kicked the ball onto my leg and it was an own goal.”
Work hard, play hard
Regardless of the result, Flamini is adamant that the team worked hard to please the fans.
“We conceded an early goal, we didn't play a great first half but we were trying, trying, trying.”
"We wanted to come back for the fans, especially because they have been behind us since the beginning of the season and especially after the 6-0 defeat against Chelsea.”
Solid Season
Despite his own goal, Flamini has endured a fantastic season at Arsenal after his return this season. With 29 games under his belt and one goal as an extra contribution, his ability to screen the defense has been priceless in Arsenal’s campaign.
While he is coy on taking full responsibility for Tuesday’s disastrous result, his performances this season will give him the benefit of the doubt from the fans.
But with a second missed opportunity in as many weeks, all the players positions will be in doubt for Saturday as Wenger prepares to wield the axe to save Arsenal’s season.
