Arsène Wenger and the Arsenal board are ready to pounce after French winger Antoine Griezmann revealed that his future is still in the balance for the upcoming summer.
Open Door
With 19 goals this season, the in-form Real Sociedad player took to Twitter to deny the rumours from French newspaper L’Equipe that a verbal agreement to join PSG was in place for the summer.
“To clarify, despite rumours about a signature at PSG – no contacts or decisions in this direction have been considered.”
“After seeing the news of my possible match with PSG – I wanted to deny any kind of agreement or conversation with the club.”
Arsène Knows
Griezmann has been linked with the Gunners and the struggling Manchester United for quite some time, the Arsenal manager declaring his interest in signing the player to the media earlier in the month.
"Yes, we follow him in great detail. That should not come as a surprise because he attracts other clubs as well. He is a known commodity."
Summertime Sadness
However, with a World Cup in Brazil pending in June, Griezmann and his representatives will be keen to sort out a deal to avoid and distractions during the tournament.
One stumbling point however may be the €30 million reportedly requested by the Spanish club for one of their prized possessions.
Questions over Wenger’s managerial position also question Arsenal’s chances of completing a deal in principle before the window opens.
Another Attacker
With Theo Walcott to return next season, it seems unlikely Arsenal will be going all out to sign another wide player in the summer.
Nevertheless, the uncertain future over Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, as well as the risk of relying on youngster Serge Gnabry to step up to the first-team, may play a part in the club’s decision to pursue this transfer.
