Arsène Wenger has hinted that crocked midfielder Abou Diaby still has a chance to turn out for the Gunners in an injury-hit career.
Problematic Progress
The 27 year-old was ruled out for most of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in last season’s March clash against Swansea.
After a series of injuries in previous seasons hampered his progress, his setback has led to speculation over his long-term future at the club.
Special Surprise
However, Wenger revealed in his pre-match conference for Manchester City that while he doesn’t expect the Frenchman to feature again this season, there is still a chance that he can revive his Arsenal story.
“Diaby is coming back now. He had a preparation in France, where he had his rehab, and will be back to full training on April 1.”
"Let's not forget he has not played for a year. I cannot predict now how much time it will take him to be competitive.
"I cannot plan for him to play a role now in the coming games, but maybe I will have a good surprise when I see him."
Gone with the wind
While Wenger’s trust and belief in Abou Diaby’s ability to come back from injury mentally and physically stronger, it is hard to see where the rangy midfielder fits into the Arsenal squad.
It is admirable to see a manager put faith into a player he nurtured from the age of 20. But with Tomas Rosicky signing a new contract and a range of players fighting out for a central spot, Diaby may have more to fight for than just his fitness for the next season.
