Reports surfaced last night that the Gunners have completed their first signing of the summer in the form of Swiss forward Josip Drmic.

Timely Transfer

Former Germany striker turned Sky Deutschland pundit Lothar Matthäus claimed on air that Arséne Wenger has moved three months in advance to secure the signature of Nürnberg’s forward.

While earlier rumours that the player’s wife had been looking for apartments in London were quashed by Drmic himself, he hinted that he would be open to a deal imminently.

Red-hot Striker

Drmic has been in scintillating form this season, the 21 year-olds 15 goals this season (47% of his teams goals!), have helped Nürnberg fight in a tight relegation battle in this years Bundesliga campaign.

Arsenal are in need of an extra forward player for next season after Olivier Giroud’s inconsistency and uncertainty over his future place a cloud over the North London side’s attacking unit.

As one of Europe’s in-form strikers, with only Lionel Messi, Daniel Sturridge and Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring more goals in Europe than him in 2014, Nürnburg won’t allow their prized asset to leave cheaply.

Flailing Frenchman

Drmic would be a significant improvement on the French forward, the Swiss striker having a 31% shot to goal success rate compared to Giroud’s 14%, an extremely low amount for a title chasing attacker.

It has been suggested that the forward would cost in excessive of £8 million to finalise the deal for a player who has shot to worldwide attention this season.

Arsenal Ambition

While the Gunners are in dire need of a new forward to join their ranks, it is difficult to comprehend that Wenger and the board would buy another ‘unknown’.

After spending £42.5 million on Mesut Özil, one would expect the the management team would build on this statement by targeting word class players with the price tags to match.

Nevertheless, with Drmic reportedly claimed that ‘it would be every boy’s dream’ to join Arsenal, he may have the perfect attitude for a new signing.
