Arsenal are set to finally secure the signing of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata after the Spanish club admitted that they were open to negotiations.
Morata has been on the Gunners radar for over a year, reports suggesting that the North London side were close to signing the forward in the January window.
Money can’t buy you love
While the La Liga outfit are rigid on receiving an £8 million fee, Arsène Wenger is feeling uneasy over a buy back clause that Madrid want to insert into the 21 year old’s contract.
The prospective clause suggests that if Arsenal are to sign Morata, Madrid would be entitled to buy him back in two years time at a pre-arranged price if they wish to do so.
Under Pressure
With uncertainty over the manager’s future and the potential disruption that this clause could create on the squad in the long-run gives a potential reason why negotiations may be prolonged.
Wenger is under pressure to sign a striker after huge criticism over the erratic Olivier Giroud, as well as the uncertainty over Yaya Sanogo’s short-term development.
Tactical Substitution
With Nicklas Bendtner leaving in the summer after his contract expires, it would leave the Gunners with one out-and-out striker unless Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott are ready to step up to lead the side up front.
Morata would be a viable option to play for Arsenal. Young, good value and with five goals this season, the Spaniard may be a perfect short-term solution for a problematic position within the Arsenal camp.
