It is understood Arsenal are making contingency plans to find a replacement for Arsene Wenger if he was to leave. This was reported on Goal by the reliable Wayne Veysey.

Arsenal have made contact with Louis van Gaal amid ongoing uncertainty over the future of Arsene Wenger, Goal understands.

The Gunners remain confident that Wenger will sign a two-year contract extension agreed last October but know he will quit as manager if the team fail to meet his targets over the next month.

Additionally Van Gaal has worked with all three of Arsenals new youth staff who start in July.  Andres Jonker who will replace Liam Brady worked with Van Gaal at Bayern, Barcelona and the Dutch FA while U16’s coach Jan van Loon and Under 18’s coach Frans de Kat both worked in the Dutch youth setup.

If Wenger was to leave it would see Boro Primorac, Tony Colbert and Gerry Peyton also leave while the rest of the coaching setup would remain the same.

However, Wenger is expected to stay and is drawing up potential transfer targets as he embarks to spend the transfer war chest at his hands. It is understood Wenger is looking at a big name striker, a right back, midfield general, wide player and new goalkeeper (Mirror). Southampton’s Callum Chambers is being looked at, at right back while Mandzukic is the striker Arsenal  continue to follow.
