Arsene Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of the clash against Newcastle United on Monday Evening.
The game against Newcastle is a vital game for Arsenal as every game from now till the end of the season is a must win.
Arsenal are currently in 4th spot, 1 point ahead of Everton, but with recent results against Newcastle, this just may be the biggest game of the 4th spot race for the Gunners.
Kieran Gibbs is said to be sidelined still with an ankle problem, but good news is that Thomas Vermaelen could make a return to the squad. This becomes good news for the Gunners as recent games with Vermaelen on left-back have gone well with the player having good performances.
For the rest of the team, Wenger reports that everyone that was involved in the 3-0 victory against Hull are in a clean bill of health. Thus the line-up should be more-a-less the same with one change seeing Thomas Vermaelen fitting in at left-back.
Sagna Latest
The latest news surrounding Bacary Sagna is that talks between the player and club are not progressing.
Wenger told journalists at the pre-Newcastle press conference that:
“Talks are not progressing, The ball is not in our court anymore and he has to come back to us.”
Apart from Wenger's comments, there are also sources close to Sagna saying:
"He will leave the club 100 per cent - there is no way he will stay.
"He feels very heartbroken, disgusted and disrespected by the board and the offers they are making, after being so loyal to the club for so many years."
"Now his focus will be to help his team-mates and the fans by landing the FA Cup and a top four finish."
This doesn't look good from an Arsenal perspective as he is a significant player in defence for the Gunners and will leave a massive whole open and huge shoes to fill for someone either coming in or coming through the ranks.
Transfer thoughts
With the news of Sagna not progressing and the likes of Thomas Vermaelen and Lukasz Fabianski also thought to be on the way out, Arsenal are going to have to strengthen at the back.
What makes the issue more heart-breaking for Arsenal fans is that most of the money would of been wanted to be spent on a new striker and attacking like-minded players, but with Sagna and other defensive players said to be on their way out, where would the money most likely be spent?
