Arsenal have recently been linked to Real Madrid and German international defensive midfielder Sami Khedira. The Mirror reports that he could be available for as little as £15 million due to only having one year left on his contract.

In terms of quality and positioning, the German is exactly what we need-- an aggressive hard-hitting midfielder to add some bite back into the centre of the park. His quality is evident, he was virtually an ever-present in the Madrid side last season, but this season has been out with injury.

However, he was valued high enough by Ancelotti to start in the Champions League final and has also made the Germany Rio World Cup squad. At the price he represents a bargain, the question being whether Ancelotti would let him leave.

The Ozil factor is also key. The two players are close friends being former Real and current German team mates.

Wenger is likely to be keen on this deal given how reasonable it could be, however, he would have to act quickly—a strong World Cup would inflate the German’s price and lead Madrid to offer him a better contract. Khedira’s long stint on the sideline this season is another deterrent, because the one thing Arsenal must avoid is more injury prone players!

The Mirror suggests Wenger would be likely to pick one of Fabregas (who would cost Arsenal around £30m) or Khedira. Khedira is the more economical option, and in many ways the player better suited for our current squad, yet I know many fans would rather see Cesc don the red and white for a second time.

If the 2013-2014 season showed us one thing, it indicated that what Arsenal need to mount a genuine challenge is depth. Khedira would walk into the Arsenal first 11, starting alongside Ramsey or Wilshere at the base of the midfield. He would replace a tiring Arteta who had a particularly poor season, and Flamini who is a solid player but is prone to getting hotheaded.

I would welcome Sami Khedira at Arsenal, would you? And would you rather have Fabregas or the German at the club?
