Arsenal raided Real Madrid last summer and could be set to do the same again during this transfer window as according to reports they have made a formal offer for Argentine Ángel di María.

The 26-year-old has been in dazzling form all season for Los Blancos but seems likely to disappoint them and seek a new challenge.

A source close to the player spoke with UOL Sport recent and revealed that the Argentina international will leave this season.

Argentine likely to depart Madrid

Daily Express quoted the source close di María, he said: “It is true that he is leaving because he wants to go. It is very likely that he will leave before the end of the World Cup in Brazil.”

Various clubs have been linked with a move for the Real Madrid player including Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United.

Interestingly, however, di María’s source believes Arsenal have jumped a march on the two Manchester clubs by making a concrete offer for the Argentine.

Bid made by the Gunners

The source added: “Arsenal, PSG and Monaco have all made concrete offers for Ángel. But there is still interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus.”

Sports Witness intriguingly suggested that the ‘source’ close to di María could in fact be his agent, the talk from the ‘source’ does sound very agent like and that would certainly suggest that there is truth in these quotes.

UOL have also heard rumours that Real Madrid are willing to let di María go and with these latest comments it seems the most likely option. Arsenal enjoyed a successful campaign last year, continuing their league consistency but possibly more importantly getting the winning trophy feeling back by winning the FA Cup.

If Arsène Wenger was to secure this transfer then it would be a massive statement of intent from the Arsenal boss. Many pundits felt the Gunners would have been able to sustain a title challenge had they not been so unfortunate with injuries.

Whether that is true or not is hard to prove but what certainly would help a title challenge in the 2014/15 campaign would be the signing of a proven world class performer - di María certainly is that and it would be a major coup if Wenger could bring the Argentine to the Emirates.
