The Cesc Fàbregas transfer saga could be one that dominates the summer newspaper columns and while Spanish newspaper Marca believe the Barcelona man is looking to move back to London, it is unfortunately not with the Gunners.
Marca state that Fàbregas feels at home in London and would like to join a club competing in the Champions League next season, an aim that would appear to rule Manchester United out of the running.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s departure from Stamford Bridge means the Spaniard could slot straight into his favoured central midfield position.
Join the Gunners!
Despite the 27-year-old being linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United, Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla would like his fellow countryman to join him at the Emirates.
Sky Sports quoted Cazorla, who said:
"I've read that he could go to Chelsea but I'd prefer him to come to Arsenal because he's a great player and they really love him there.
"I don't know what his future is, but I hope that he will be happy and enjoys the team wherever he is. I don't think there's a big difference between Cesc's performances in the Premier League and La Liga. He's adapted perfectly to both leagues.”
Fee agreed
Sky Sports La Liga expect Graham Hunter also backed up Marca’s claims about Fàbregas by admitting he believes Chelsea and Barcelona have already agreed a fee for the midfielder.
However, he did reveal his surprise that Fàbregas would like to link up with Chelsea manager José Mourinho.
Hunter added:
“There were times when Mourinho was with Madrid that Fabregas was – although articulate – very critical of Mourinho’s behaviour. That can change, huge wages can make you work for different people.”
Cesc v José problem
The thoughts of Hunter link with an article in the Independent today which suggest Mourinho is far from happy about the prospect of managing Fàbregas.
Independent, like Hunter, report that the pair have had several run-ins in the past and that the Chelsea manager would prefer to use Brazilian Oscar in the central attacking role.
It is believed that the Stamford Bridge board are pushing for Fàbregas’s transfer rather than Mourinho, which implies that although Barcelona and the Blues have agreed a transfer fee, a lot remains to be completed before this transfer is finalised.
