Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell lit up the World Cup yesterday with a stunning display against Uruguay and has confirm where he expects to play his football next season.
Campbell spent last season on loan at Olympiakos and has been away from the Emirates for the past three campaigns plying his trade in other countries due to visa issues which have now resolved.
Campbell to return?
The 21-year-old’s future remains unknown but he has opened the door for a return to London, although he did concede it won’t be decided until after the World Cup.
Campbell told Goal.com: "Of course I have to go back, because I have a contract with Arsenal, but the most important thing just now is my country and the World Cup.”
Before he discussed his display in the 3-1 World Cup win, where he scored once and assisted another as they shocked the South American side.
He added: "(The Uruguay game) was excellent for me, but it would have come to nothing without the contribution of my colleagues.
“Everyone lived up to their responsibilities. I tried to do my best to score goals and my colleague supported me.
"We have to take one step after another. We have difficult matches ahead, but this will give us impotence."
The man Arsène wants is already here
It has been well documented recently that Arsène Wenger is on the look out for a top quality forward and though Campbell isn’t in that bracket, the soon-to-be 22-year-old has undoubtedly showed his potential over the past year.
Last season Wenger relied on the services of Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo and it would appear a logical decision to bring back the Costa Rican striker for the 2014/15 campaign.
Arsenal fans were certainly impressed with the youngsters World Cup display and he has regularly found the net for Olympiakos this season, too.
While Sanogo remains a talented forward, Campbell appears someone closer to the finished article and would be sure to score goals in the Premier League if handed an opportunity.
His extreme pace would also provide Wenger another attacking option as aside from playing Theo Walcott up front, Arsenal don’t possess a striker with the express speed of the Costa Rican.
Campbell apparently wants to come back to Arsenal to prove his worth and Arsenal fans seemingly would like to see the 21-year-old return too, but will Wenger be brave enough to use the forward or let him become another Carlos Vela?
Only time will tell.
