Joel Campbell dazzled Uruguay recently and inspired Costa Rica to a sensational 3-1 win with a performance that many felt would earn him a chance at the Emirates next season.
The Costa Rican has spent the last few campaigns on loan at various clubs across Europe due to some visa issues but those have apparently been resolved now.
Following his World Cup opener display, many believed the young forward would be part of Arsene Wenger’s forward line for next season.
Campbell to be used as bait
However, the Daily Express have reported that Campbell could be used to bring Italy striker Mario Balotelli to the Emirates.
The former Manchester City ace has been heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal since the end of the season and Wenger is in the belief that he can turn the Italian into a success.
If Balotelli is to become a Gunner, then AC Milan would like Campbell to move to the San Siro as part of the deal.
£25 million fee would decrease…
Both parties are keen to wait until the conclusion of the World Cup but the £25 million fee that Balotelli is worth could come down considerably if the Costa Rica forward is included in the transfer.
The Italian is undoubtedly an excellent player and could become a star at the Emirates but Arsenal have allowed a lot of forwards to leave the club recently and those decisions have sometimes come back to haunt them.
Would Wenger not be best served bringing Balotelli to the Emirates to play alongside Campbell rather than allowing the youngster to leave all together?
After plying his trade around the world it seems Campbell finally deserves a chance in the Premier League with the Gunners, whether or not he is afforded that opportunity is anybody’s guess now.
