Arsenal pursuit of a new right-back has taken a new twist it as it was reported by Mundo Deportivo that Ivorian Serge Aurier will not be moving to the Emirates.

Aurier had agreed personal terms with the Gunners but the his parent club Toulouse were unable to agree a fee with the Premier League side and the deal appears to be off.

Champions League rivals interested

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are now in the hunt to sign the young defender and it seems likely he’ll end up at either of those two teams and not with Arsenal.

The new right-back in Arsene Wenger’s sights is Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy.

The French international has enjoyed an excellent 2014 World Cup thus far and has received rave reviews.

Good start to life in Premier League

He adapted to the Premier League fairly quickly with Newcastle and though he has made some mistakes during his time at St James Park, he has tended to impress.

Wenger has certainly been impressed and according to France Football will make a bid for the 28-year-old after the conclusion of the World Cup.

The Metro believe Debuchy will do all he can to leave Newcastle and that backs up claims from the Newcastle Evening Chronicle that the right-back is looking to leave and join a Champions League club.

Minimum £15 million

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle suggest Arsenal will have at least £15 million to secure his services though and if Le Figaro are to be believed then that is the case.

The French newspaper reported today that Arsenal were close to confirming Debuchy as their player. It seems Wenger’s trip to Brazil has proved productive.

With Bacary Sagna now a Manchester City player, it is imperative the Gunners sort out the problematic right-back position and for a change it seems Le Professor is getting his work done early.
