Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez will be Arsenal players by the end of this week.
The French full-back is on the verge of completing his transfer from Newcastle to the Emirates for £10 million according to Sky Sports News and that transfer could be announced tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday, by the latest.
Double signing on the horizon
Meanwhile despite the Daily Star reporting that Sanchez could complete his transfer to north London today, that claim seems highly unlikely.
Star report that the Gunners have agreed a £30 million deal with Barcelona for the Chile forward and they believe that the transfer will be concluded imminently with the attacker in London for talks.
Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool have registered an interest in Sanchez but the player wants to play under Arsene Wenger.
Wenger the key?
Sky Sports La Liga expert Guillem Balague tweeted earlier today:
“Convinced Alexis will be an Arsenal player very soon.
“He wants to play for Wenger and the transfer fee won’t be huge. Sound business by Arsenal Football Club.”
Sources inside the Emirates believe the transfer of Sanchez will be completed by Thursday.
No last minute Liverpool hitch
The Reds have been in dialogue with Barcelona regarding the services of Luis Suarez and initially wanted Sanchez to be involved in the deal that would see the Uruguayan leave Anfield.
Although unlikely, they could still try to convince the Catalan club to not sell Sanchez to Arsenal and instead let the Chilean join them at Anfield.
As mentioned, though, that seems unlikely and Thursday will almost certainly be the day Wenger and Arsenal announce the double capture of Sanchez and Debuchy – what a day that could be for Gunners fans.
The 2014/15 campaign has started promisingly and pre-season optimism may for once be rewarded with results.
