Any impending move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has been put on hold, after the World Cup finalist informed the Gunners that he would expect to be the highest paid player at the club to join.
Jaw Dropping Demands
While The Metro claim that a bid of £24 million has been submitted by the Gunners and seen as adequate by the Spanish club, personal terms are seen as a potential stumbling block in any deal being completed.
With Arsenal set to announce the signings of Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez later today, they are unlikely to want to spend high wages on another player in excess of what 25 Hour Sport claim could rise to £8 million a year.
Ja Gunners
Khedira’s stunning display, capped off with a goal against Brazil during Tuesday night’s demolition, has given the 27-year-old bargaining power which may price himself out of a move to North London.
At a requested wage of £150,000 a week according to The Daily Mail, Khedira wants to become the clubs highest earner, ahead of ex teammate and close friend Mesut Özil.
Other Options
The news this morning of Mikel Arteta’s intention to stay in contention at the club as captain, alongside the rumours that the Spaniard has hit the gym to be considered in the defensive midfield role, Arsène Wenger will be reluctant to spend over the odds for the Real Madrid outcast.
Manchester United and now Chelsea are keeping tabs on Khedira’s situation, Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge factor and close ties with the midfielder indicating a potential shift in the transfer saga.
Poignant Priorities
Excited to announce Debuchy and Sanchez, it is thought that the club will continue to pursue another attacking option in the form of Loic Remy, while making a back-up keeper a priority.
Despite Khedira’s evident world class abilities and good run of form, it is unlikely that Wenger is willing to spend such a large chunk of his transfer war chest on a defensive midfielder.
