Arsenal have been given mixed signals over the prospect of signing Germany midfielder Sami Khedira, after it was revealed that Chelsea are ready to hijack any potential deal from the Gunners.

The former Stuttgart player, who will compete in the World Cup final tomorrow, is thought to be valued by Real Madrid at approximately £20 million, more than the Gunners are willing to pay.

Talk Sport Tweets

However, despite the big money signing of Alexis Sanchez, Talk Sport host Stan Collymore revealed on Twitter that Khedira’s agent has informed him of Arsenal’s advanced talks over the player.

Although any quotes from his agent should be seen as an attempt to drum up interest from other suitors, or for Real Madrid to increase their contract offer, the potential £150,000 a week the player requests is sure to make many clubs withdraw their interest.

Blue or Red

The Mirror’s John Cross believes that although the interest in the player is huge, personal terms and the high transfer fee will have a big part in scuppering any potential deal with Arsène Wenger’s club.

If the North London club are serious about their intentions to sign Khedira, they will be unnerved with The Express’ claims that the player’s former manager Jose Mourinho is keen to add him to Chelsea’s ranks this summer, with the Portuguese boss given the full money backing of the owner to win the league next season.

With Chelsea already signing Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and the selection headache that Arsenal already face for their midfield spots next season, it is likely that either club will have to sell players before making such a bold move to make Khedira one of their highest earning players.

If you’re happy and you know it spend again

Mikel Arteta has been said to be hitting the gym in order to become Arsenal’s defensive midfielder for next season, his role in the Puma kit launch indicating that the club intend on keeping him as a key player and captain next season.

Regardless, Khedira is a world-class player and if the Gunners decide to splash the cash on him, fans should be happy that a team is being built with the aim of competing on all four fronts next campaign.
