Arsenal have set their eyes on Colombian World Cup goalkeeper David Ospina, in a move to increase competition for first choice and Polish star Wojciech Sczcesny.
The Metro reports that Arsène Wenger has negotiated a £3 million fee for the goalkeeper, who will come in to replace FA Cup hero Lukasz Fabianski, who departed to Swansea City last month.
Nice Spot
Regardless of Ospina’s fantastic stint in Brazil this summer, where he managed to keep two clean sheets in five games, Arsenal have the upper hand in any potential deal, due to the keeper entering the last 12 months of his contract.
Wenger will know all about the player after watching him during media duty during the World Cup, as well as being aware of the six seasons the 25-year-old has spent plying his trade in France with Nice.
More To Come
Trusted Argentina sports media outlet Varsky Sports tweeted the news that the player is on the verge of a switch to Arsenal, making him the Gunners third official signing of the transfer window, after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and the impending deal for Mathieu Debuchy.
After deciding against pursuing Cardiff number one David Marshall, Ospina is another signing that was promised by the club, chief executive Ivan Gazidis confirming to Arsenal Fan TV on Thursday night that Arsenal were still in the market to add to their squad.
No Brainer
Ospina has quality and age on his side, the fantastic form he has shown at the World Cup making it a perfect time for the Gunners to sign him.
In addition to this, the small transfer fee needed to obtain him will create a low risk approach to make Szczesny keep an eye over his shoulder, while providing solid back up for domestic competitions.
