Sami Khedira is set to enter talks with Arsenal after contract extension discussions with Real Madrid fell through this week.
The German World Cup finalist has been on the Gunners radar for a while, the club looking for an all-action midfielder to add to an ambitious squad ready to compete for the title next season.
When I met you in the summer
The Daily Star claim that Arsenal will have to spend £20 million in order to get their man, while the player himself is demanding a contract worth £150,000 a week to swap sunny Spain for North London.
Real Madrid are aware that Khedira has no plans to extend his deal with them, El Confidencial revealing that the player could decide to run down his contract and leave for free next summer if he wishes.
Too many midfielders spoil the team
The Champions League winners will not have any preference on where Khedira should go. Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea are lurking in the shadows in case personal terms cannot be agreed with Arsene Wenger’s side.
Kept out of the team last year by Ancelotti’s favourites Angel di Maria, Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso, coupled with the potential arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos, Khedira is aware that his future lies away from the Bernabeu.
German Revolution
A potential World Cup winner come Sunday night, Khedira’s valuation and wage requests could become even higher than once thought. This would put Arsenal in a compromising position which may risk any deal being completed.
However, with whispers over the future of Santi Cazorla, About Diaby and Mikel Arteta, Khedira would be a perfect addition who would fit in well with the German revolution that Wenger is aiming to create.
