Following the wake of Germany’s first World Cup win in 24 years, key man throughout the tournament Sami Khedira has agreed personal terms to sign with Arsenal.
Fresh Start
The midfielder, who was injured in the warm-up last night, has been unhappy at Real Madrid after being kept out the team by Luka Modric and Angel di Maria last season.
However, his request to leave has been granted by his club, after Madrid have become increasingly confident of landing two new signings in the form of Colombian James Rodriguez and one of Khedira’s compatriots Toni Kroos.
Sky Sports reported in the early hours that Toni Kroos confirmed his dream move to Madrid on Brazilian television, therefore Khedira’s exit to North London is set to be announced imminently.
Raise Your Golden Cup
With English newspaper The Express confirming that the clubs have agreed a £20 million fee, it is thought that Khedira’s wage demands of £150,000 a week on a four year contract have been granted by the Arsenal hierarchy.
The move is seen as a signal of intent by Arsène Wenger to add as much quality to his side as possible, his faith in the Real Madrid star justifying the big money move that follows Alexis Sanchez’ arrival at the Emirates Stadium last week.
One in, two out
Joining up with his old teammate and close friend Mesut Özil, it is thought that Khedira will be arriving as a replacement for one of Arsenal’s current midfield stars.
Despite Mikel Arteta confirming his wishes to stay at the club, it is thought that his place will be under threat by the new signing, while it may be a trigger for Santi Cazorla to force a move back to Spain with Atletico Madrid.
To Victory and Beyond
A world class star who will now give the Gunners four World Cup champions in their squad next season, no fan can complain at the prestige that Sami Khedira will add to Arsenal.
Even though he has demanded to be one of the clubs highest earners, with a medal on his neck after last night, Wenger will be thankful he has chosen the North London club, over Mourinho’s Chelsea, for 2014/2015 and beyond.
