The highly anticipated signing of new right-back Mathieu Debuchy has edged even closer today, as it has been revealed that his replacement Daryl Janmaat has completed a medical at Newcastle.
Second Signing
Debuchy, who has been linked with the Gunners for a number of months, is to be confirmed as an Arsenal player imminently, according to sources close to ESPN.
The Frenchman will be the second signing on the summer for the North London club, following Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.
It’s Pretty Close
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew admitted today that he believes a Janmaat deal is “pretty close,” therefore paving the way for Debuchy to make his swift exit from St. James’ Park.
Debuchy all but confirmed a move to Arsenal was on the cards a couple of weeks ago by removing all Newcastle details off his Twitter page.
French Compatriots
The Daily Express claim that Newcastle will gain £12 million from the transfer of the right-back, whose World Cup antics keeping Bacary Sagna out of the team have not gone unnoticed this transfer window.
Arsène Wenger will be delighted to sign his compatriot whom he has watched during French media duty in Brazil.
Quality and Depth
The move is another attempt to increase the quality and depth of Arsenal’s squad for next season, while it is still expected that there will be several more signings arriving in the coming weeks.
It has been an ongoing transfer saga that has never looked in doubt, but Arsenal fans will be hoping that today is the day that Mathieu Debuchy becomes a Gunner.
