Arsenal announced their second signing of the summer, with the arrival of French right-back Mathieu Debuchy.
The player, who will replace the departed Bacary Sagna, is delighted with his £12 million move to The Emirates, telling Arsenal.com that he is ‘very proud to sign for Arsenal and to wear the colours.’
Not giving in
The move has triggered demand for current fullback Carl Jenkinson, who struggled to break into the first team during Sagna’s stint at the club.
The Daily Mail reports that West Ham United and Swansea City have both put in enquiries for the Englishman.
While West Ham would be willing to spend £5 million on Jenkinson, Swansea are exploring the possibility of taking the lifelong Gunner on loan for the 2014/2015 campaign.
Forward thinking
Moving up front and Arsène Wenger is still looking to bolster his forward line with an out and out striker. However, it looks like this won’t be Loic Remy, as he edges closer to a deal with Liverpool.
The Metro have been led to believe that Wenger is shocked at the QPR forward’s wage demand in excess of £80,000 a week and is set to look elsewhere for a striker to improve his attacking force next season.
Finally, Mario Balotelli has fuelled speculation about his future yet again, after posing outside an Arsenal poster in a Puma store during a trip to New York with his girlfriend.
The picture, published on his girlfriend’s Instagram page, has sent tongues wagging at the prospect of the Italian striker linking forces with Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates next season.
Time will tell
While there are many whispers around Arsenal today, it looks unlikely that any signings will be imminent, but perhaps behind closed doors, there are more deals to be done.
What is of great importance is to add a new goalkeeper and defensively versatile player to give the Gunners the best chance for the upcoming season.
