The President of French side OGC Nice has admitted that an agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of World Cup star David Ospina is nearly completed.

Ospina was one of numerous goalkeepers to make the headlines at the 2014 World Cup as his heroics in goal for Colombia saw them into the quarter-finals, eventually losing out to host nation Brazil.

A reported fee of around £4million has been cut to £3.2million in today’s reports, with the 25-year-old turning down a potential switch to La Liga side Valencia in order to push a move to the Premier League.

OGC Nice President Rivère Jean-Pierre could not deny that Ospina was on his way to Arsenal when pushed for answers on the ‘keeper:

"There is still no agreement, but we are not far."

The Holdup

All that stands in the way of Ospina’s move to the Emirates is the stopper’s summer holidays.

Reports from France have claimed that the deal will be complete as soon as the 44-time capped man travels to London from his holiday destination to finalise a deal.

As we reported yesterday, Ospina has been brought in to replace Wojciech Szczesny’s former understudy Lukasz Fabianski who has already made his move across the Welsh border to Swansea City in search of the first team football that his Polish teammate stood in the way of.

Ospina seems happy to play second-string to Szczesny and fight for the first team spot eventually, and judging by his World Cup displays, Wojciech might have a battle on the cards.

Colombia stole the hearts of all that watched as Ospina kept 2 clean sheets on their route through the tournament.

The ‘keeper already has a “Welcome to Arsenal” video on Youtube.
