After the excitement of signing Sanchez, news that Remy and Khedira will not be joining has brought the euphoria levels down a notch or two. The worry is that Wenger will revert back to form and we will see another frustrating summer of top targets being passed over due to high wage demands.
We had the opportunity to buy Suarez last season and had we done so, we would be celebrating another famous double, not just the FA cup. Had we bought Benteke, Ba or Michu, we would have had a chance. Instead we paid top dollar for Ozil and then scrimped and saved on Sanogo.
Giroud performed admirably but he eventually ran out of steam as our midfield ran out of ideas. Injuries, as they always do, took their toll and our lack of striking options meant that we once again stalled at the business end.
With Alexis Sanchez in the bag and none of our stars looking to leave, now is the time to push on and add another stellar signing.
It’s clear that Balotelli wants to join as does Jackson Martinez; a punt on either will add another dimension.
Khedira is a world class player having won the World Cup and the Champions League in the last 2 months alone. Talent like that doesn’t come cheap. But we can afford it.
What we cannot afford is to not sign him, or a player of similar class. Bender and Schneiderlin have been mentioned but is either a patch on Khedira? I don't think so.
Having chosen not to bring Fabregas back to the Emirates, you’d imagine that Wenger has something up his sleeve. The development of Gnabry and Zelalem promises much and with The Ox, Wilshere and Joel Campbell returning from the World cup with points to prove the season looks very exciting indeed. But we don't want to rely on promise, youth and hope this year, nor do we need to.
We don't need to rebuild like Chelsea, United or Liverpool, we just need a bit of icing and a big fat cherry on top. Then we can take back our rightful place at the top of the Prem.
