Arsenal have been making plenty of movement in the transfer window over the past few days and one of the perhaps less talked about deals was young Thomas Eisfeld departing the club.
The 21-year-old has moved to Championship side Fulham on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee after struggling for first team opportunities with the Gunners since moving from Borussia Dortmund in January 2012.
Under the watchful eye of fellow German Felix Magath, it will be hoped that Eisfeld can flourish in west London and show his true potential.
Disappointment…
However, there is no doubt that his transfer is somewhat disappointing because of the talent the German is said to have.
Eisfeld was given very few opportunities by Arsene Wenger and perhaps a loan move would have been better to see how he develops and to see if he can handle English football.
The hope will be that Arsenal have inserted a buy-back clause and that this won’t be another youngster that departs the club to achieve success elsewhere.
Goodbye to Nacho?
Another player that may be departing the club soon is left-back Nacho Monreal after it was revealed by the Times that he is in talks with Atlético Madrid.
Atlético are in need of a new left-back and it is felt that the Spaniard fits the bill for the La Liga champions.
The Daily Telegraph also back up claims that Monreal is surplus to requirements at the Emirates.
When the Spaniard moved to Arsenal last year he was under the impression that he would be first choice left-back, however he has fallen down the pecking order and Kieran Gibbs is the preferred option for Arsene Wenger.
Therefore the Gunners would be willing to allow Monreal to exit the club, especially considering his £60,000-a-week wages make him an expensive deputy.
While Monreal may be exiting England, another Spanish international is being linked with a switch to the Emirates.
Iker to the rescue…
The Metro believe Real Madrid and Spain captain Iker Casillas has been told he can sign for Arsenal, if he will terminate his current contract with Los Blancos.
Reports at the weekend suggest Madrid were thinking about terminating his contract and Spanish newspaper El Confidencial state Arsenal have told Casillas to join them if that happens.
Wenger is reluctant to spend a transfer fee on the keeper because of his age but would automatically make him first choice if he become available on a free transfer.
However, with Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina apparently close to becoming an Arsenal player for around £3.5 million, a move for Casillas appears unlikely.
As always, we await more developments regarding Arsenal and transfer but this summer, so far, has been a resounding success and it seems it can only get better and better.
