Arsenal’s interest for Mario Balotelli has reignited, after AC Milan reportedly told the club that they would be interested in selling their star man, if Joel Campbell moves the other way.
Balotelli Bargain
Any deal for the Italian striker seemed wide off the mark, after weeks of speculation came to nothing and Alexis Sanchez became the Gunners first marquee signing of the summer.
However, Italian newspaper Tuttosport headline today that Milan will sell Balotelli for €10 million, if Costa Rican whiz kid Joel Campbell was to move to the San Siro as part of the deal.
Fighting tooth and nail
Campbell, who moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2011, has not played a single game for the side, after having loan spells at FC Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos in his attempts to obtain a work permit.
Now eligible for the first-team, as well as his impressive performances at the World Cup catching the eyes of Europe’s elite, he will return to pre-season in North London to fight for his place.
Admitting that, “Up front we don't need any more,” Wenger is trying to resist Milan’s advances and will fight tooth and nail to keep his young prodigy at the club for next season.
Milan lose the World Cup
Speculation last month suggested that a deal for Balotelli to arrive at the Emirates was close, after comments quoted by The Express from Milan president Silvio Berlusconi were hinting at a deal in place.
"Other than Italy, I lost during the World Cup. I was about to sell Balotelli to an English team for several millions.
But after this World Cup who will buy him anymore?"
While Puma have put the pressure on Arsenal to add their player icon to the squad, it is expected that they will resist Milan’s negotiations to focus on adding a defender and goalkeeper to the squad.
Keeping the faith
Before Sanchez signed, Balotelli would have been a remarkable option that would have made supporters excited for the upcoming campaign.
However, Milan must be having doubts about his long-term talent to get rid of him after only a year, therefore Arsène Wenger should keep the faith in the flurry of options at his disposal for the upcoming campaign.
