Following this weeks £16 million capture of Southampton right-back Calum Chambers, current Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has threatened legal action over the use of his nickname ‘Chambo’.
Since his arrival, Oxlade-Chamberlain has taken the 19-year-old under his wing, posing for multiple pictures on the journey to Arsenal’s Austrian training camp, ahead of the Emirates Cup this weekend.
Ready to go to court
Tweeting that he has made sure that the player is ‘under his wing’, Alex also jokingly revealed that,
“Although I'm ready to go to court regarding the whole nickname situation, really happy to see @CalumChambers95 at Arsenal. Big future! #chambo.”
There are encouraging signs that this will be one of the best ever squads under Arsène Wenger’s reign, with team spirit clearly at an all time high in the Arsenal camp.
Tommy’s on the move
The club are looking to build on last season’s FA Cup triumph, but the team may have to undertake the challenge without non-playing Belgian captain Thomas Vermaelen.
A range of media sources have posted pictures of Calum Chambers wearing Vermaelen’s allocated number 5 shirt, which would suggest that the centre-back is on his way out of the club imminently.
The Daily Mail believe that Manchester United and Barcelona are keen to add the player to their ranks, but Arsenal hope that they can sell him to an indirect rival to avoid any situation similar to Robin van Persie two years ago.
Prospect for the future
There have been reports that Wenger is looking to mould Chambers into a modern day Tony Adams and the player himself is excited at the prospect of being coached by the legendary Frenchman.
“It was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. He’s a fantastic manager and everyone can see that and to get the opportunity to work with him will be amazing.”
Big chance
With three Southampton youth products in the squad, the spirit is high as young English players are slowly getting their big chance at Arsenal.
However, it seems like the arrival of another defender signals the end of Thomas Vermaelen’s parabolic career at the Gunners.
