Arsenal young striker Joel Campbell has yet again got the world talking, after video footage of the player’s skills in the Austrian training camp spread across the Internet today.
Nacho kind of thing
Supporters will be in two minds over the footage, encouraged by Campbell’s clear involvement with first team individuals, but concerned by the ease at which he kept the ball away from out-of-favour left-back Nacho Monreal.
Only 22-years-old, Campbell arrives for first-team training for the first time since 2011, after loan spells with Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos helped him obtain his work permit to play in England.
Proving in the cup
These preceded his successful World Cup in Brazil, where the striker led his Costa Rican team-mates to the quarter-finals, scoring one goal in the competition before the sides penalty shootout exit to the Netherlands.
With 13 solo runs into the penalty area and an assist to put to his name during the tournament, Arsène Wenger has been encouraged with the players progress and has decided to give him a chance during the Emirates Cup this weekend.
See you later
Today marked new rumours over the players immediate future at the club, The Metro indicating that Galatasaray are in pole position to bring him to Turkey on a season long loan deal.
While competitive football for a Champions League club will be beneficial for him, many supporters would like him to stay in order to compete with what is claimed to be a depleted Gunners forward line.
As reported by Arsenal Latest, Olivier Giroud is close to signing a new contract for the club, while Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski will provide competition for a starting berth alongside Yaya Sanogo.
Squad integration
To see pictures and videos of Joel Campbell’s squad integration can only indicate positive signs that he is going to fight for his place in the team for next season.
However, it remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal will sign another forward and if Wenger believes his current options are sufficient enough for the new campaign.
